First Working Prototype

Today we received the first working/playable prototype of Billions, Save Them All from Francois. It’s very exciting to be able to experience the gameplay for the first time.

Right now, most of the gameplay is done. You are able to move around the blocks on all sides, build bridges, captures Mogaloos with your Suck-o-Matic gun (which has now changed to a green whip) and experience a couple of the special blocks (i.e., flying block and disappearing block).

The controls are mapped to the keyboard currently. You can move forward, backwards, left and right with the arrow keys and look around with the mouse. For the purpose of our GDC demo, we have asked Francois to map these controls to an Xbox controller. This should be an easy thing for him to do with 3DVIA Studio.

In terms of artwork, most of what we see in this prototype is for placement only (i.e., the final art assets still need to be brought in). The Glow Agent is represented by a standard library asset character from 3DVIA Virtools, the blocks are basic cubes, the Mogaloos are shiny spheres and so forth. Below I’ve posted a couple of images so you can see what it looks like. So far, so good. More to come…

Here is a shot of the 3DVIA Virtools FPO character Francois is using temporarily to represent our hero, the Glow Agent. You can see that the final artwork is not yet in place, although there are some green blocks with basic trees and foliage that will be finalized as time goes on.

In this screenshot you can see the Mogaloos! Here they are represented as silver balls. In addition, notice the Suck-o-Matic whip.

As always, comment, comment, COMMENT!
